For their New York debut, the Scottish Ballet, now Scotland’s national dance company will feature a program of U.S. premieres: Motion of Displacement (2015) by Bryan Arias, and Ten Poems by Christopher Bruce. Arias’ Motion of Displacement “…is inspired by memories of his mother’s journey in her pursuit of love, and set to the music of John Adams and Johann Sebastian Bach,” while Bruce’s Ten Poems, set to various Dylan Thomas poems read by Richard Burton, “…focuses …on themes of humanity, loss, war, and peace.” notes the release. On this program of “Work Up” (3.2), Gibney Dance’s performance series which presents short works by dance and performance artists on a shared bill, effie bowen offers DANCE SPORT “…an exorcism dance for the contemporary moment, pursuing exhaustion as an ecstatic state,” IV Castellanos and Amanda Hunt “…Explor[es] the continuous catching and falling of the performers’ bodies…” in SurForm i & ii, and Veraalba Santa’s completes the program with Series of Non-Beginnings “…a solo piece and a long-distance duet between Santa and sound artist Joel Rodriguez,” notes the release.
