The month long series, returns with eleven companies, nine performances, including a shared bill with: Parijat Desai, Paz Tanjuaquio and Angie Pittman (May 17 – 18), Jonathan Gonzalez (May 19 – 20), Anabella Lenzu (May 30 - 31), Ni’Ja Whitson (June 1 – 2) and so much more. New this year will be two offsite events: panel discussions about artists and cultural identity, and screenings of rarely-seen films. “The choreographers participating in La MaMa Moves! 2018 are all strong, powerful individuals beholden to no one, answering to no one but themselves, adhering to no style or genre, holding on to not one physical practice, dance technique or philosophy,” said the festival’s curator Nicky Paraiso, himself a practicing artist for over thirty years Find out more here

The Company returns to The Joyce Theater with the revival of Limón's Missa Brevis (1958), The Unsung (1970) for an all-male cast, the premiere of Artistic Director Colin Connor's The Body is a House Without Walls, for an all-female cast, and three commissioned works by Rosie Herrera, Adam Baruch, and Yin Yue. Choreographer Romania, in collaboration with performers Andrew Braddock, Maira Duarte, Alvaro Gonzalez Millie Kapp, Raquel Mavecq, Butch Merigoni, Arthur Romania, and Emily Smith, will premiere KLUTZ “…an exploration of destabilizing nonsense on the sick state of the American psyche,” according to the release. Curated by David Parker and Jeff Kazin, The Soaking Wet dance series bring Vicky Shick and Dancers (Program A) and artists of Women in Motion (Program B) together. Shick will premiere her new Wash/A Variety Show, created from her draw to “…both the making of and by the mini-portraits inherent in solos and duets.” Rebecca Lazier, Garnet Henderson, Joya Powell with Zoė Aqua make up the WOMEN IN MOTION program. “Penny Arcade is the undisputed queen of downtown performance, and Bitch! Dyke! Faghag! Whore! is her biggest hit. A freedom of speech rallying cry, the raucous sex and censorship show premiered at Performance Space 122 in 1990 during the height of the culture wars, when ultra-conservative politicians pressured the National Endowment for the Arts into defunding artists who made work that was considered “offensive to the average person,” according to the release.
