Jan. 24-Feb. 5—Under artistic directors Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, for their 23rd season, Complexions Contemporary Ballet returns to the Joyce Theater with two programs of works by Rhoden, including the world premiere of “Gutter Glitter,” the New York premiere of “Star Dust,” repertory works and the launch of “The Collage Series,” an ongoing initiative created by Rhoden in which new works are presented “in a visual collage format that seeks to find the line of commonality within diverse elements,” notes the release. The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers presents their 43rd concert and pow-pow at Theater for the New City. Featured will be dances, stories and traditional music from the Iroquois and native peoples of the Northeast, Southwest and Great Plains regions. Ohad Naharin, and his company, Batsheva Dance Company returns to the BAM with the premiere of Last Work, a new evening-length piece “…developed by Naharin and his 18 dancers over the course of a 10-week intensive rehearsal process, Last Work premiered in Tel Aviv in June of 2015,” notes the release. In Loulaki’s house of winds: a process for Untitled 2, she “…examines the architectural relationship between the moving body and the space that contains it. The work builds a sensory environment in which all elements in the performance space become equal with the performer. The British contemporary company, Richard Alston Dance Company, returns to Montclair, New Jersey with a program that includes the world premiere of Alston’s Chacony, the American premieres of Alston’s An Italian in Madrid, featuring the young kathak dancer Vidya Patel, and Mazur; and the American Premiere of Martin Lawrance’s Stronghold. The Repast Baroque Ensemble, along with the Shanghai Quartet, will perform with them. Find out more here
