Noche Flamenca

Under artistic director Martín Santangelo and dancer Soledad Barrio, Noche Flamenca will present Entre Tú y Yo (Between You and Me), an evening-length program of duets, solos, and ensemble works “…exploring the constraints imposed and the possibilities afforded by human relationships,” notes the release.  Find out more here
 


Molly Lieber and Eleanor Smith

New York Live Arts
March 6 – 9
Lieber and Smith will present the world premiere of Body Comes Apart, as part of the Live Feed Residency Program, continuing with their experimental 10-year creative practice using abstraction as a means of confronting trauma. Find out more here

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
The Joyce Theater
March 6 – 17
For their two-week run, the company’s first since 2015, they return with two programs: Program A and week one includes the evening-length work Decadance/Chicago, arranged specifically for the company by choreographer Ohad Naharin.  Program B and week two includes three works by Crystal Pite A Picture of You Falling, The Other You, and Grace Engine. The Company will present The Four Horsemen “…exploring symbolism from the story of the Apocalypse through Indian classical dance, music, and Sanskrit poetry. The work centers around four vignettes of life and death through four female protagonists who stand for universal human experience,” according to the release.  Find out more here
 
Sara Baras

New York City Center
The Flamenco dancer, Baras, returns with her company Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras with her latest work, Shadows combining both traditional and modern flamenco with her trademark take on La Farruca—traditionally danced by male flamenco dancers. Find out more here

The three-week series, “Work-Up,” continues in week 2 - “Work-Up 5.2” with Aye Eckerson, Emily Winkler-Morey and Javier Padilla.  Find out more here

Douglas Dunn + Dancers
92nd Street Y
March 8 – 9
As part of the 92Y Harkness Dance Festival, the Company will present the world premiere of Crag, where “Non-interactive partners are related by constantly shifting and reconfiguring variations in tempo, rhythm, and space,” notes the release. There will be live music by Dunn’s long-time collaborator, composer Steven Taylor. Find out more here

Bridgman/Packer
The Yard

Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer, of Bridgman|Packer Dance, “…have researched the relationship between live performance and various media…and…In working with green screen and other film techniques, they have refined a view of the world that contains both remarkable layers of narrative and visual magic” in Voyeur and Table Bed Mirror, the work continues, according to the release.  See their sharing this weekend.  Find out more here

Cuba’s Ballet Contemporáneo De Camagűey

With choreography and artistic direction by Pedro Ruiz, Contemporáneo De Camagűey will make its U.S. debut in CUBA Aquĺ.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
