Dance Theatre of Harlem returns for their annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration at NJPAC - “Embodying the Dream," through workshops and activities for children and their families. On the performance program is Darrell Grand Moultrie's Vessels, Robert Garland's New Bach, plus the NJPAC premieres of Dianne McIntyre's Change and Moultrie's Equilibrium (Brotherhood). The renowned flamenco company, Nocha Flamenca where live music and principle dancer Soledad Barrio is a staple returns with premieres and the critically acclaimed works. La Ronde (Dec 26 – Jan 7) inspired by Arthur Schnitzler’s 1897 play, “La Ronde” in a series of duets that explores desire, humiliation and loneliness; and Creación following the life-journey of two female dancers in a fusion of Flamenco and hip-hop. Select performances of Creación will feature hip-hop legend TweetBoogie who alternates the role with Nubian Néné, and Antigona Artistic Director Martín Santangelo’s adaptation of Sophocles’ “Antigone” (January 10 – 28). L-E-V, the company formed by Sharon Eyal, a former company member, associate artistic director, and house choreographer for Batsheva Dance Company and long-time collaborator and multimedia event designer Gai Behar make their debut at The Joyce Theater with the New York premiere of OCD Love which “…draws its inspiration from poet Neil Hilborn’s OCD… [and described as]…an obsessive-compulsive take on love,” notes the release. As part of the twelfth edition of PS122’s Coil festival, ArKtype and The Invisible Dog Art Center, in partnership with Performance Space 122, present the U.S. premiere of A Study on Effort by former Batsheva dancer Bobbi Jene Smith and violinist Keir GoGwilt. “The work consists of ten tasks, which question physical, emotional and metaphoric effort through a lens celebrating the connections between sound, body and duration,” notes the release.
