As part of the SummerStage dance series, nathantrice/RITUALS, under artistic director/founder Nathan Trice will present and excerpts of the “…episodic work…Strange Love…[described as a]…visual, audio, sensory, theatrical dance performance exploring the anatomy and beauty of courtship, intimacy and love, amidst the music of John Coltrane and Miles. The work features 8 dancer/singers and a live jazz trio who explore a combination of themes (stereotype, resistance, terror, eroticism, violence, memory and embarrassment) to develop a number of scenes expressing complex layered perspectives on courtship, intimacy and love.” A SummerStage master class will be led by Calvin Wiley. Returning for the 20th year Fringe will present nearly 200 emerging theatre and dance companies including Alia Kache/Kachal Dance (8/12-26) in Caricature of She which “…explore femininity through a whimsical fusion of dance and theatre,” and colectivodoszeta / carlos a. cruz velázquez (8/13 – 24) in auto/PHOBIA which “…looks to transform loneliness and at how the self-adapts to its ever-present specter,” notes the release. To close the Joyce Theater season, BalletX under artistic and executive director Christine Cox, will present a mixed bill program which includes: BalletX co-founder Matthew Neenan’s Show Me set to music by Brooklyn Rider; a new work by Trey McIntyre, Big Ones, set to the music of Amy Winehouse; and Jorma Elo’s Gran Partita, featuring the music of J.S.
