The Met Breuer
July 7 – 8
Artistic director, Davalois Fearon will present the multimedia dance work, Time to Talk, featuring music composed and performed live by instrumentalist Mike McGinnis. “Rooted in research on American history, dance history, racial identity formation, and systemic racism. Time To Talk is inspired by Fearon’s own experiences of overt racial bias within academia and the dance world. The piece uses dynamic fluid dance from multiple genres, live music, poetry, and visual art as tools to bring attention to inequalities within the dance field and society at large,” notes the release. Fearon adds, “Time to Talk aims to encourage and inspire people to take action against injustice, and asking the audience members to question how they may be knowingly or unknowingly contributing to maintaining social norms that support a status quo of inequity,” says Fearon. Time to Talk is part of the Theater of the Resist summer performance series. Also on the program is hip-hop poetry trio from The Mighty Third Rail, and rap artist Zebra Katz, aka Ojay Morgan.
