FJK DANCE

Hudson River Museum
July 14

FJK Dance will preview the new multimedia performance and art installation UnTold which “…layers ancient Middle Eastern aesthetics with contemporary ballet and ballroom movements, while incorporating sculpture and graphic design. The work aims to shed light on the hidden beauty of Middle Eastern culture, at a time when stereotypes govern our perceptions. Inspired by Arabic poetry, Al Mu’alaqat (المعلقات) (a set of seven poems) is transformed into projections and theater sets. The designed Arabic written words dance and interconnect with the performers on stage,” according to the release.  This is free event.  Find out more here https://www.hrm.org/summer_amphitheatre.html

Their work together has since grown and flourished and manifests itself now with the creation of Elusive Bird, the final portion of their trilogy of evening length performances at Gowanus Loft. Find out more here

Lucinda Childs Dance Company
July 12 - 13
Rose Theater
Not seen in New York since 1983, Childs’ Available Light “…offers prismatic views of the intersection between dance, music, and architecture…arranges and rearranges her dancers in the three-dimensional space of Frank Gehry’s stark, split-level set, creating kaleidoscopic textures that echo the restless phase shifts, ambient washes, and fractured fanfares of John Adams’s work for synthesizer and recorded brass, Light Over Water,” according to the release.  There will be a pre-performance talk with Lucinda Childs and Martin Wechsler on Friday, July 13 at 6:15 pm in the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Studio.  Find out more here
