September 9, 6-8pm
The Joyce’s DANY Studios - 305 W. 38th Street
The folks at The Joyce say:
"Gain insight into this spectacular work at a talk focusing on
choreographer/director Arthur Pita's brilliant dance theatre reinterpretation of Franz Kafka's 1915 novella, The Metamorphosis. Created for the Royal Ballet in 2011, Principal dancer Edward Watson’s award winning performance as
George Samsa, a traveling salesman who awakes to find himself transformed into an insect, is described as “searing”. Sections of the original text will be discussed as a frame for the choreography and theatrical elements that create a visceral and dramatic work featuring a cast of 7, including Watson ,who brings great humanity and physicality to the transformation from man to giant insect."
Dance historian Linda Monich presents this video-illustrated program.
