On January 1, 2016, Dancing in the Streets will usher in a new era. December 31, 2015 will be my last day as the organization’s Executive & Artistic Director. After 17 challenging, and invigorating years, I will miss discovering unknown NYC places, working with the extraordinary Red Hook and South Bronx communities; forging new partnerships and friendships with the staffs of cultural and community organizations in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx; and most of all, I will miss the pure joy of working with extraordinary artists, including hip hop and Latin music legends and site-specific choreographers who bring NYC places, communities and cultures to life in memorable and breathtaking ways.
And, yet, the time has come for Dancing in the Streets to have a new director at the helm; and the time has come for me to embark on a new chapter in my life when I hope to spend more time with my growing family and more time working on personal creative projects.
Between now and December 31st, I will work closely with Dancing in the Streets’ Board of Directors on the search for my replacement; and on the following three projects:
• 7/11 / Hip Hop Dance: From the Street to the Stage / St. Mary’s Park, Bronx
• 8/21 &23 / Dancing Through the Bronx / Owen Dolen Park & Hayden Lord Park, Bronx
• It’s Showtime NYC / Citywide
Thank you for your continuous support of Dancing in the Streets.
I look forward to seeing you at this summer’s performances and at Dancing in the Streets performances for years to come.
Warm regards,
Aviva Davidson
Executive and Artistic Director
